What is Love?
We don't need energy to release or to let go, but it is essential for holding onto something. If we consider desire as the energy required to cling, then love is the act of holding.
Holding is a fundamental survival mechanism. Love provides a meaningful and purposeful way to hold onto the sufferings of survival. For instance, when a person slips, instinctively reach for something to grab hold of, just as a baby clings to its mother for security. Even a baby’s joyful smile towards its mother can be seen as a form of holding.
Allow your mind to explore all possible ways we hold onto things, ideas, and people.
We hold by eyes. We hold by the lips. We hold by humor. We hold by cooking. We hold by teasing. We hold memories. We hold grudges. We hold cholesterol. We hold our trophies and pride. All these actions are forms of holding. Whether we hold a door handle or uphold our self-image, we do it with the mind through desire. All that we grab through desire is held in the mind. The mind serves as a container, like a chalice or a crevice, where all desires flow in. Just as seeds germinate in a small crevice, desires flourish in the mind.
To be in love is to be a space that holds everything without struggle.
To be in love is to be a placeholder for people, ideas, and actions to grow.
